3 Indian Players Who Might Be Dropped From India Squad For South Africa ODIs

India takes on South Africa in a white-ball series comprising three T20Is and three ODIs starting with the first T20I on September 28 in Thiruvananthapuram. The next two T20Is will be played on October 2 and October 4 in Guwahati and Indore. The series then moves onto the three ODIs on October 6, 9 and 11 in Lucknow, Ranchi and Delhi respectively.

India last played an ODI series under the captaincy of KL Rahul against Zimbabwe and beat them 3-0. Ahead of West Indies, India also played an ODI series against West Indies under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan winning the series 3-0.

Meanwhile, as per reports across various media outlets Shikhar Dhawan is expected to lead the Indian ODI side as the T20 World Cup-bound players might be rested for the three-match ODI series.

“Yes, it is not ideal to have an ODI series before T20 World Cup. But that is how it goes sometimes. Rohit, Virat and all T20 World Cup-bound players will be rested from the ODI series. They will get a short break before departing for Australia. Shikhar will lead the side,” a senior BCCI official said to ANI.

This ODI series comes as another opportunity for the fringe players to put their hands up and showcase their mettle ahead of the T20 World Cup. With the T20 World Cup-bound players rested, the team selection will be interesting. India’s T20 World Cup squad is likely to be announced on September 15 and thus there will be a narrow pool of players to choose from. The World Cup in Australia starts on October 16 and ends on November 13.

Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at three players who might be dropped from India’s ODI squad against South Africa.

Bishnoi has played 10 T20Is for India so far in his career. He is yet to play for India in any other format and he might not be considered for selection in the ODI series against South Africa. Bishnoi is seen as a T20I specialist and thus the selectors have doubts whether the young bowler has developed the skill set to play ODI cricket.
