Undoubtedly, the calendar year of 2022 in cricket belonged to the World’s number one T20I batter and star Indian batting sensation Suryakumar Yadav. He finished the year with 1164 runs in 31 matches with an impressive average of 46.56 including two centuries and nine half-centuries to his name. Apart from this, he became the number one batter in the T20I rankings during the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 last year.

The 31-year-old also registered an outstanding strike rate of 187.44 going out on duck for only two times. Just before the start of the new calendar of 2023 in cricket, he was named as the vice-captain of the Indian T20I team under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya for the ongoing three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.

With said that and considering the excellence of the Mumbai batter, Here we’ll have a look at the three records that could be broken by him during the year 2023.

Most continuous half-centuries in T20I cricket

SKY was one of those batters who had three consecutive half-centuries to his name in the T20I cricket last year. He started this streak against Australia in Hyderabad T20I and it ended with two consecutive half-centuries of 50 and 61 runs later against South Africa.

Former New Zealand alongside former Caribbean legend Chris Gayle, Craig Williams, Rayyan Pathan, Gustav Mckean, and Reeza Hendricks collectively owns the World record of most half-centuries in a row. They all have four half-centuries in one go to their names in the shortest format of the game.

Suryakumar Yadav is scheduled to play a lot of T20I cricket in the calendar year of 2023. If he maintains his brilliant form and scores five back-to-back half-centuries later this year, he will be the only player to do so.
