Boss Mikel Arteta and match-winner Kieran Tierney admitted graft more than craft earned the Gunners victory over Zurich and top spot in their Europa League group.
Tierney smashed the only goal early on to boost his chances of regaining a more regular place in Arteta’s Premier League plans.
The left-back said: “We wanted to get the game done by 60-70 minutes ands score a couple of goals but we never done that.
“I thought we saw the game out. They put a lot of pressure on us but we saw it out well.”
And Arteta’s verdict? “Job done. I don’t think it was the prettiest game we have played but we managed to win it.
“We know how important it is going to be with all the teams playing in February. Winning helps winning.”
It comes as Arteta confirmed he’s looking to boost his Prem table-topping squad in the January transfer window.
He said: “We know the January window, how special it is, the opportunities that you have, the short window that you have.
“And obviously with the position that we are in right now as well, it demands as well another level of player.”
The Spaniard also insists he’s confident of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba signing new long contracts.
Lastly, Real Madrid are rated Arsenal’s most serious rivals for £87million-rated Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk.
