Doncaster St Leger horse racing tips: Templegate’s prediction and complete guide to big race on day one

TEMPLEGATE takes on the big race on day one of Donny’s St Leger Festival confident of finding the winner.

Read on for our man’s breakdown of the 3.35 Group 3 Fillies’ race and find his tip at the bottom.

BOUNCE THE BLUES 2

ON the Bounce. Listed winner in Ireland but has yet to score on this side of the Irish Sea. Moved up to a mile when a fair fifth in the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown latest. Booking of William Buick takes the eye but a bit to find on form.

DIVINE MAGIC 2

MAGIC trick. Solid handicapper over this trip with a win at Leicester three starts ago but she came up short in a modest contest at Ascot last time.

Still has scope to improve but needs to raise her game against these rivals.

NIZAAKA 3

AAKA cracker. In fine form at handicap level with a hat-trick of wins on the July course at Newmarket earlier this summer.

Stepped up to this Group 3 class with a disappointing effort in the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown 18 days ago. May not have stayed the mile there and this trip suits better. Can improve here.

NOVEMBA 3

BA could star. Won the German 1,000 Guineas over the mile last season before a cracking effort in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Her recent form hasn’t been quite so good but she wasn’t beaten far in this grade back at the Queen’s track when third in July. Interesting to see how she fares dropping in distance here.

ROMANTIC RIVAL 1

ROM con. Best win came in a Kempton Class 4 in June and she looked well short of this standard when stone last in the Valiant Stakes at Ascot latest.

Doesn’t shape like this shorter trip will help and she’s likely to be outclassed.

SUNSET BAY 1

SUN has set. Won a couple of minor handicaps last summer but has not figured since being upped in class this season.

Was well held in a Goodwood Group 3 last time and needs a major step forward to have any kind of say.

UMM KULTHUM 4

UMM strongo. Has had an interrupted career after winning an Ayr Group 3 in fine style in September 2020.

She’s run just six times since and kicked off this season with a battling Listed success at Newmarket before a couple of more modest efforts.

Her best efforts have come over 6f and she can’t be dismissed trying a longer trip.

ADAAY IN ASIA 5

HAPPY Daay. In flying form at handicap level and made it four wins on the spin upped to this distance at York last time out.

That was impressive as she didn’t get the run of the race but was going away nicely at the line. This is hotter company but she’s on the upgrade and can take it in her stride.

HEREDIA 4

HERE we go. Has few miles on the clock and was impressive when taking the 28-runner Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

She then flopped when odds-on in a Sandown Listed contest before copping the worst of the draw when midfield at Goodwood latest.

This trip should be fine and she has more to come at this early stage of her career.

HONEY SWEET 2

SWEET sour. Won a Listed race in the mud over 6f at Deauville in October and has shown bits of promise since with a couple of seconds in that class.

She didn’t get much luck at Pontefract last time but was beaten fair and square so needs more to figure.

NECTARIS 3

TAR very much. Won a Curragh handicap in May and went close in this class at Fairyhouse in July before another good effort at the Galway Festival.

Was slightly below that level over a mile at Deauville last month and will be happy dropping to 7f. Looks a decent price to hit the frame for Ryan Moore and Jessica Harrington.

Templegate’s tip

ADAAY IN ASIA is in the form of her life and can land a fifth win on the spin upped in class.

She took a hat-trick of handicaps over 6f but pushed her form to another level when scooting in over this trip at York last time.

That was a hot contest and this doesn’t look the deepest of Group 3s.

Umm Kulthum has been hard to get on the track but has ability and this trip could bring improvement.

It’s early days for Royal Ascot winner Heredia who is respected along with Irish raider Nectaris under Ryan Moore.
