England 2 Spain 1 (AET): Georgia Stanway’s SCREAMER sends Amex wild as Lionesses roar into Euro 2022 semis in thriller
GEORGIA STANWAY’S stunner kept England’s Euro dreams alive in style.
The 23-year-old let fly in extra-time to stun Spain and book the Lionesses’ place in the semi-finals.
The Lionesses struggled to carve out any chances of note in a poor first-half performance.
And their hopes of reaching the semi-finals were dashed further when Esther Gonzalez struck nine minutes into the second 45.
Her low drive into the corner was the first goal conceded by Sarina Wiegman’s side all tournament.
England finally managed their first shot on target in the 68th minute as Rachel Daly tried her luck after Lauren Hemp was denied a penalty.
But eventually, with seven minutes to go, they found the all-important equaliser.
Ella Toone pounced in the area to fire home to force extra-time.
And six minutes after the restart, Stanway let fly in emphatic fashion to fire the hosts into the final four.
