Erik ten Hag makes surprise visit to Man Utd U21 match just hours after flying back from Moldova

ERIK TEN HAG paid a shock visit to watch Manchester United’s U21’s take on West Ham yesterday – just a few hours after flying back from Moldova.

The Dutchman, 52, helped guide the Red Devils to a 2-0 victory over Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday.

Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo both scored as United bounced back from last week’s shock defeat to claim all three points.

The team travelled back from Moldova the following morning, with each player given permission to have the day off.

But, instead of spending the rest of the day at his Manchester home, Ten Hag took a trip to the Moss Lane Stadium in Altrincham to watch United’s U21’s in action against West Ham.

The Premier League Two clash ended 1-1 with the points shared, leaving United 11th in the league table while the Hammers continue to struggle at the bottom without a win.

Since arriving at Old Trafford in May, Ten Hag has vowed to offer young stars the opportunity to break into the first team.

He has already promoted Zidane Iqbal, Charlie McNeill, Tyler Fredricson, Radek Vitek, Kobbie Mainoo and Shola Shoretire to first team training.

But, he took to the stands at Moss Lane with Darren Fletcher and Mitchell van der Gaag to scout some other stars for the future.

Charlie Savage, who has already made his senior debut, started the clash with McNeill, Mainoo and Fredricson also in the line-up.

Shoretire was named on the bench, but he made an appearance later in the game.

Man Utd’s first team kicked off the 2022-23 campaign with two successive defeats to Brighton and Brentford.

But Ten Hag was quickly able to turn things around and the Red Devils went on to defeat Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal in the Premier League.
