Lukaku fears for World Cup

Romelu Lukaku’s hopes of playing at the World Cup are hanging by a thread after the striker suffered another hamstring strain.

The Belgian, on loan at Inter Milan from Chelsea, returned for the Serie A side last week after two months out, making cameos as a substitute against Viktoria Plzen and Sampdoria.

However, the striker appears to have aggravated his injury during his few minutes on the pitch.

The Nerazzurri released a statement today that read: “Lukaku underwent medical examinations at the Humanitas Clinic in Rozzano this morning, which highlighted a strain in the myocardial scar of the femoral biceps of the left thigh.

“The player’s condition will be assessed again in the next few days.”

Belgium are due to open their World Cup campaign when they take on Canada in little over three weeks.
