Here’s a look at records that Prithvi Shaw has broken with his historic 379-run knock against Assam

Prithvi Shaw carried away his purple patch with the bat in the ongoing 2022-23 edition of the Ranji Trophy. The 23-year-old smashed a mammoth triple ton and scored 379 runs off 383 deliveries with a strike rate of more than 98 against Assam. Unfortunately, he missed another historic milestone of 400+ individual runs in an inning after falling prey to Riyan Parag on the second day of the ongoing Elite Group B match.

Earlier on the first day of the match, the hosts Assam won the toss and asked Ajinkya Rahane’s men to bat first. But Shaw had some other plans on the day and he completely spoiled the plans for Assam skipper Gokul Sharma with an outstanding and historic triple century.

Coming back to the extraordinary knock of Shaw, here we’ll have a look at several records that the Mumbai batter has broken.

Here’s a look at milestones Prithvi Shaw achieved after the triple century:

  1. Surpassed Sanjay Manjrekar in terms of the highest individual score for Mumbai. Earlier, Manjrekar played a knock of 377 runs 32 years back in the year 1991.
  2. Surpassed former legendary Indian skipper and batter Sunil Gavaskar’s mark of 340 alongside Vijay Merchant’s unbeaten knock of 359.
  3. Become the second in the list of highest-individual scores in the history of the Ranji Trophy. He is now only behind former legend Maharashtra batter Bhausaheb Nimbalkar (unbeaten 443).
  4. Shaw crossed his individual best of 202 in the Ranji Trophy, he has now the best total of 379 runs off 383 balls.
  5. The young opener is now the eighth batter for Mumbai to smash a triple ton in first-class cricket.
  6. Talking about the overall records in First-Class cricket throughout the cricketing world, he has now become the second player after Gloucestershire’s Gilbert Jessop to score 100 runs two times before the lunch break in the same match.
  7. In the Indian domestic circuit, Shaw has become the first player to smash a triple ton in First-Class cricket, a double-ton List-A, and a century in domestic T20 cricket.
  8. He has also become the first opener to play a knock with the highest individual score after surpassing Gujarat’s Samit Gohel’s unbeaten knock of 359 runs.
