Horse racing tips: Big 10-1 pick for Saturday plus the real drama behind Rossa Ryan and AMO Racing split

THINGS are starting to go a bit Pete Tong for AMO Racing.

Just last week we revealed the main man behind the operation, Kia Joorabchian, is ready to walk away from the British game.

And then a few days afterwards their retained jockey Rossa Ryan announced live on ITV that he was no longer their rider.

Now there’s never smoke without fire in this game, and to be honest, Ryan has probably done himself a favour getting out of that gig.

It already looks a bit of a sinking ship.

After some sniffing around, it sounds like the fallout all happened very, very quickly.

Yet much of it wasn’t actually to do with Joorabchian and centred around Ryan’s decision to ride at York on Friday instead of Newbury.

Richard Hannon felt Ryan, 22, should have been down south to partner AMO-owned Purple Love in a fillies’ maiden.

The £175,000 buy was clearly fancied on debut as she was sent off just 13-8, but she could only manage a well-beaten eighth of ten.

Ryan had the last laugh on the Knavesmire and rode State Occasion to win a £50,000 pot for Ralph Beckett.

With footy agent Joorabchian not as involved with his horses at the moment thanks to the hustle and bustle of the transfer window, it was Hannon who reportedly had the hump.

He was quick to take Ryan, who he brought through as an apprentice, off the Group 1 ride on Persian Force in Sunday’s Prix Morny. From then the dye was cast.

Joorabchian said in a statement that an ‘internal investigation’ would be carried out.

That stinks of ‘oh, we’ve been caught with our pants down here, what do we do now?’

Whenever a football club announces an ‘internal investigation’ it tends to be for something very sudden and unexpected.

Just a couple of days prior to this I spoke to Ryan about Persian Force and there was not even a doubt he wouldn’t get the leg up.

Ryan had to think quickly after Friday’s antics on all sides and clearly thought best to get ahead of the curve.

It was a bold call for the youngster to make.

He said he could still ride for AMO in the future and again, that hints at a falling out with Hannon rather than Joorabchian.

Ryan is a jockey going places. Plenty of clever faces think he will be a multiple champion jockey.

He has heaps of support away from AMO already. Take Beckett for example, a trainer who coincidentally fell out with Joorabchian last summer and had his horses taken away.

AMO continues to splash the cash for now, but the doubts continue to grow. Watch this space.

WILLIAM HAGGAS is already fed up of being asked about Baaeed’s next run – he’s even joked he’ll go for the Triumph Hurdle.

But behind the scenes Haggas needs to know what the plan is very, very soon.

Haggas himself is desperate to run at Ascot for the simple reason that if he wins the Champion Stakes, Haggas’ bid to become champion trainer for the first time looks a lot rosier.

If Baaeed is rerouted to Ireland and France, then suddenly Charlie Appleby is favourite.

If Ascot is no longer the plan, then he will need to keep Baaeed fully up to speed and match fit at home.

If Ascot is the aim, then he can let Baaeed have an easy couple of weeks. More goes into these decisions than meets the eye and there’s a hell of a lot of stake.

We can forgive him for being a bit grumpy. But of course, let’s hope he turns up in the Arc.

GOOD WORK

ADAYAR is apparently finally getting close to a return. Last year’s Derby hero hasn’t been seen all summer but has his zing back on the gallops. Charlie Appleby has eyed a return in the September Stakes at Kempton on September 3 before an Arc bid.

LEADING St Leger hope Francesco Clemente is taking a walk in the market. John and Thady Gosden’s unbeaten three-year-old is now 11-1 for the last Classic of the season having been just 7-1 recently. He missed the Voltigeur at York and something must be up.
