In T20Is, Rishabh Pant Has Not Been Accomplished Player– Harbhajan Singh Backs India’s Decision To Play Dinesh Karthik Ahead Of Pant

Former India National Cricket Team off-spinner Harbhajan Singh said that the young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant “has not been an accomplished player” in T20Is and backed India’s decision to play veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik ahead of Pant in T20Is in the lead up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

The second match of the Asia Cup 2022 was played between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, August 28. India made a bold move in the match and opted to play Karthik as the wicketkeeper-batsman in the playing XI ahead of Pant.

Meanwhile, Harbhajan said that India should make the fuller utilisation of Karthik’s form and give him a consistent run in the team.

“Rishabh Pant, no doubt, has done very well even in Test cricket and one-dayers. He has been very good. But in this shortest format, he has not been an accomplished player.

“However, if you look at Dinesh Karthik, his graph is only going upward. He has performed well. This is the right decision. In this format, in this form, there is no use keeping him on the bench. It’s time for Dinesh Karthik to play, he should play,” Harbhajan told AajTak from Dubai.

Former India off-spinner further said that Karthik only has a few years left in cricket and he should make the most of it. He added that the opposition teams will always be under pressure with Hardik Pandya and Karthik batting down the order for India.

“Rishabh Pant is young, he still has plenty of time left. However, Dinesh Karthik has only 1-2 years left and he should make the most of it, the team should also use Karthik’s form and make the most of it. He can win a lot of matches, batting down the order,” he added.

“With Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik batting down the order, I think it’s going to be difficult for most opposition bowlers.”
