It’s the penultimate day of the group stages of the FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023. Hosts India would play Wales in their final round-robin game and would aim to get to the top of their group and reach the quarterfinal directly.

Situations for India’s qualification in the quarterfinal
Thanks to three field goals and one goal from a penalty corner and some very casual defending from Spain, England beat them 4-0 and now sit at the top of the Group D table, making their way to the quarter-finals. India, who are currently in the second position in the group and will remain there even if they lose against Wales, need to win by a margin of 8 goals to get above the English in terms of goal difference.
If India win by a margin of less than 8 goals, they would still finish second in the group and would have to play a cross-over against a third placed team from Group C which are New Zealand to get to the quarterfinal.
