Summer is nearing its end, but heat and humidity continue across the D.C. area.
Summer is nearing its end, but heat and humidity continue across the D.C. area.
The average high temperature has now dropped to 85, but Friday, Saturday and Sunday will all be closer to 90, according to Storm Team4 meteorologist Chuck Bell.
He said rain chances remain close to zero for Friday and Saturday.
As of Thursday, the outlook for the D.C. region’s Labor Day weekend calls for sunshine and high humidity with a chance of afternoon storms Sunday and Monday.
“On average, D.C. still reaches 90 (degrees) three times in the month of September. Last September had two 90-degree days, while 2019 had nine and 2011 didn’t have any.”
A high pressure pattern will keep the region’s skies largely clear on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday will see humidity levels and an approaching cold front from the west. Bell said to expect thickening clouds and an increased chance of rain.
As of Friday, it appears that most of Sunday’s rain chance will be for areas just to the north and west of D.C.
If you’re heading to the beach one final time before the unofficial end of summer, Saturday and early Sunday might be your best bet for fair weather.
At the Delmarva beaches, highs Friday will be in the upper 70s and low 80s with light winds out of the northeast and nearly no precipitation. Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be near 80. On Monday, the chance of rain is under 25%.
Virginia Beach will have high temperatures around 83 degrees, with little chance of rain through Monday.
Rain remains in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
