Man City ‘agree £12.6m fee with Anderlecht’ for transfer of Spanish U21 defender Sergio Gomez

The champions wanted Marc Cucurella but pulled out of a deal due to Brighton’s asking price – before he joined Chelsea for £62m.

And now they have agreed a fee with Belgian side Anderlecht for Gomez, 21, according to Fabrizio Romano.

City are claimed to be paying around £12.6m for his services.

Zinchenko’s departure to the Gunners means Gomez is likely to be in and around the City first team as soon as he arrives.

But the club do have a plan for him if he does not hit the ground running when he touches down in the North West.

LaLiga outfit Girona are believed to be keen on taking Gomez on loan if he does not prove himself worthy as part of Guardiola’s immediate plans.

The Spain U21 star is one for the future at the Etihad though.

He enjoyed a breakthrough season last term following spells with Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona B.

Gomez registered an impressive 15 assists in 49 games in all competitions for Anderlecht from left-back last season.

Meanwhile at national level the youngster has netted six goals in nine games for Spain U21s.

He is set to become City’s fourth first team signing of the summer following the arrivals of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega.
