Newcastle 3 Man City 3: Silva rescues point for champions in amazing six-goal thriller as Trippier has red overturned

EDDIE HOWE’S misery against Manchester City continued as Newcastle threw away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with the champions.

The Magpies made life difficult for themselves after poor defending allowed Ilkay Gundogan to put the visitors ahead inside five minutes.

But Newcastle responded brilliantly with Allan Saint-Maximin the star of the show – assisting twice to help his side into a 2-1 half-time lead.

Miguel Almiron bundled in an equaliser from the Frenchman’s cross before Callum Wilson finished expertly to score his fourth goal in four Premier League games – a run which stretches back to last season.

There was more quality to come after the break as Kieran Trippier fired a free-kick into the top corner, but City bounced back just six minutes later as Erling Haaland fired in from close range for his third Prem goal.

Moments later Kevin De Bruyne picked out Bernardo Silva with an inch-perfect pass and the Portuguese slotted cooly past Nick Pope to restore parity.

Goalscorer Trippier later received a red card for a reckless foul on De Bruyne but it was overturned after referee Jarred Gillett consulted the VAR monitor.
