Hello from the Kassam Stadium!
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the FA Cup third round fixture between Arsenal and Oxford United.
The Gunners have won the FA Cup on more occasions than any other side in history and Mikel Arteta will be hoping that tonight’s game is just the first step on a path that leads to a record-extending 15th trophy come June.
I don’t need to tell you just how impressive Arsenal’s Premier League form has been so far this season but it will be interesting to see if they can translate their league performances into the oldest national football competition in the world.
The Gunners had been near-perfect in the league this season until last Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle, and Manchester City’s victory at Chelsea, cut Arsenal’s seven-point lead at the top of the table to five.
Oxford have earned their glamour tie with Arsenal after wins against Woking and Exeter City in the competition’s previous two rounds.
This season’s FA Cup run has been a welcome distraction from the club’s stuttering form in League One where the U’s currently sit 15th having won just one of their last six games.
The reward for the victors tonight is a trip to the Etihad to take on Manchester City.
