An armed man crashed his car into a barricade near the U.S. Capitol in D.C. and fired multiple shots before shooting and killing himself early Sunday morning, police say.

A man drove his car into the barricade at East Capitol Street and Second Street just after 4 a.m.

His car caught on fire as he was getting out of it.

Police say he fired several shots into the air along East Capitol Street.

Officers say they heard the gunfire and approached the man as he shot himself.

Police say no one else was hurt and that no officers fired their weapons.

The man doesn’t appear to have been targeting any Members of Congress, as congress is on recess.

Capitol Police are investigating the man’s background. D.C. Police are handling the investigation into his death.
