Premier League international footballer arrested on suspicion of raping woman in London


A PREMIER League international footballer has been arrested on suspicion of rape, it is reported.

The player, who is in his late 20s, was detained in north London in the early hours of this morning and is currently in custody.

He is being quizzed over an alleged attack which is said to have taken place last month, The Telegraph reports.

Scotland Yard confirmed the player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken into custody on Monday.

The club has declined to comment.

The Met said: “On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police.

“It reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022.”

Cops said the man was arrested “at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody where he remains”.

Officers added: “Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”

It is unclear whether the internationally will now play in his club’s pre-season fixture schedule.
