Southbound lanes of I-95 in Stafford closed after vehicle fire


Bad news for some holiday travelers — traffic is being diverted off of Interstate-95 in Stafford County, Virginia, due to a vehicle fire early Saturday morning.

Bad news for some holiday travelers — traffic is being diverted off of Interstate-95 in Stafford County, Virginia, after a truck caught on fire early Saturday morning.

All southbound traffic is being detoured onto Route 1 at exit 140. The closure started at 2:20 a.m. according to WTOP Traffic reporter Steve Dresner.

The backup is 5 miles long, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. VDOT tweeted a photo with smoke and frames erupting from the truck.

There’s no word on when the road will reopen and if the driver of the truck is hurt.

Northbound traffic isn’t being impacted by the cleanup, Dresner says.
