‘The f***er had only won once’ – Punter’s worst fear comes true after cashing out huge bet before final horse ran

[ad_1]

A PUNTER was left devastated at missing out on a big payday after cashing out – only to see his final horse win.

Punter Andy Marshall looked to be onto a good thing with his £1.25 each way trixie.

This was the punter's bet slip that saw him pocket a decent sum - but way less than it could have been

But his world came crashing down when he took the money and ran before the heavily backed Seaborough won at Uttoxeter on Tuesday.

Marshall posted a photo of his shrewd bet to Facebook before Seaborough recorded his first win since December 2019.

The punter’s each way bet got off to a decent start when 12-1 The Blue Panther came third in a mile race at Punchestown on Sunday.

But it kicked into overdrive when Dance Havana was the shock 40-1 winner of a Class 5 1m1f contest at Yarmouth on Tuesday.

Ridden by claimer Christian Howarth – a former Cambridge United footballer – the Alice Haynes-trained two-year-old filly made a mockery of her giant odds.

Sent to the front, Dance Havana’s stamina shone in the end as she prevailed a short head from the William Buick-ridden 100-30 chance Havanazam.

But this is where the bet got messy.

A surge of support for Seaborough saw the seven-year-old gelding’s odds slashed.

Marshall’s cash out rocketed to £239.32 and, considering he only staked a tenner in all, he decided now was the time to cash out.

He posted a photo showing he had taken the money… only for his worst fears to come true a short time later.

Smashed into 5-1 from the 16s Marshall backed him at, Seaborough under James Davies was kept quiet at the back of the field in the 2m4f race over hurdles.

But he moved up ominously two hurdles out and led before the last, keeping on comfortably for a one-and-a-half length win.

This was just the horse’s second win in 34 runs over hurdles.

Victory in the Class 4 Cazoo Handicap Hurdle was worth £4,683.56 to connections.

Had Marshall led the bet run he would have pocketed £948.21 from his £10 stake.

Marshall commented under a photo of his betslip: “The f***er only won once in 33 attempts. Hindsight.”

A fellow punter rubbed it in, posting: “Mate bet you’re gutted – it came in.”
