Good afternoon football fans

Barcelona boss Xavi has asked the club to re-sign Lionel Messi from Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi joined PSG in a free transfer from Barca last year, but he failed to reach the same heights that he did while in Catalonia.

This comes after the Blaugrana were held to a 0-0 draw against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday with new forwards Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha both failing to get on the scoresheet.

As a result, Xavi is now eager to bring in at least two more attacking players at the Nou Camp.

And according to reporter Guillem Balague, the Spanish tactician wants former team-mate Messi to come back.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have made Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher their prime target in the final weeks of the summer transfer window, reports SunSport’s Dan King.

The Magpies would also like to sign Leicester star James Maddison but their hopes of landing him are currently slim.

So the Toon will now step up their bid to persuade the Blues to sell their £40million-rated midfielder.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel insists he remains a “huge fan” of the England international.

But Tuchel acknowledges the challenge Gallagher faces to gain a place in his starting X , and admits every player has his price.

And Manchester United wantaway star Cristiano Ronaldo has been offered to both Inter Milan and AC Milan this summer.

But both Milan clubs have declined the option to sign Ronaldo before deadline day on September 1.

This would mean that the star forward has now been rejected by at least nine clubs this summer.

Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid have all been offered the Portugal captain.

Finally, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers hinted he is willing to let Arsenal target Youri Tielemans run down his contract and leave on a free transfer next summer.

Rodgers told The Times: “It’s not ideal but it’s happened before — players have left here for free before.

“He wouldn’t be the first one, but at this moment in time it’s about keeping an eye on the team and the squad, making sure they are ready.

“The club will be negotiating and talking with the players’ representatives across the squad.

“Thus far, there’s no change in Youri’s situation, there’s no offers. So he’s just continuing to work well and get himself right at this early part of the season.

“Youri is a top international so every game he plays, in actual fact every training session Youri plays, he is trying to be the best player he can.

“There is a lot of speculation about him but he looks to prove a point in every single game he plays”
