Twitter Reacts As Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Help India Crush Afghanistan In Asia Cup 2022 Dead Rubber

Group stage table toppers KL Rahul-led India National Cricket Team and Mohammad Nabi-led Afghanistan National Cricket Team locked horns in the 5th match of the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 round. The match was played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, September 8.

India National Cricket Team defeated Afghanistan National Cricket Team by 101 runs in the dead rubber encounter. The Men In Blue handed over the Afghans their 3rd consecutive defeat in the Asia Cup 2022 and this was India’s first victory in the Super 4 stage.

Earlier, Afghanistan National Cricket Team won the toss, opted to bowl first in the match and they fielded an unchanged playing XI. India on the other hand, made three big changes to the playing XI as Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal were replaced by Dinesh Karthik, Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel.

In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli opened the innings for India and they performed exceptionally well. At the end of the powerplay, India were at 52/0 and after 10 overs they were at 87/0.

Virat Kohli completed his half-century off 32 balls and KL Rahul reached his half-century off 36 balls.

Fareed Ahmad provided the first breakthrough to his side by dismissing Rahul for 62 in the 13th over. Suryakumar Yadav smashed an exceptional looking six on the first ball he faced and on the second ball he got dismissed.

After that, Virat Kohli kept batting brilliantly and smashed his maiden T20I century. He scored 122 runs off 61 balls, including 12 fours and 6 sixes.

The century against Afghanistan is Kohli’s 71st international century. He has now become the 4th India National Cricket Team batter to smash a century in all three formats of the game after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. Kohli’s century helped India post 212/2 on the board.

Defending the target, Bhuvneshwar Kumar destroyed the Afghanistan batting unit and bagged 5 wickets in his 4 overs, giving away just 4 runs.

After being restricted to 21/6, Afghanistan National Cricket Team batters fought well and made a decent comeback. However, they were restricted to 111/8 in their 20 overs.
