‘WC mein kya khila diya, personal spokesperson ban gaya’ – Fans brutally troll Dinesh Karthik as he justifies KL Rahul’s place in Tests

Stand-in skipper and senior Indian batter KL Rahul had a terrible run in the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh. He could score only 57 runs in four innings of the two matches against Bangladesh with a very poor average of 14.25. Notably, the 30-year-old couldn’t even touch the mark of 30+ runs in the entire series against the hosts.
Amidst harsh criticism from the experts, fans, and former cricketers, veteran Indian batter Dinesh Karthik has come up in a defense of KL Rahul and tried to justify the latter’s place in the Test team.
“I would give KL those couple of Test matches, but if things don’t go KL Rahul’s way… The one thing that does go against him is the fact that he has played over 40 Tests and his average is just mid-30s. That is not acceptable for an opener. That is one of the lowest among Indian players for sure, who have played 35 Test matches,” said Karthik to CricBuzz.
“That is something that he needs to definitely work on. That will be on his mind. If he wants to cement his place in the Test team, he needs to get a couple of hundreds against Australia. Otherwise, you can definitely see a change, with Shubman Gill doing so well,” he added later.
Although these comments from the 37-year-old didn’t go down well with a section of Indian cricket fans. They immediately took to Twitter to lash out at Karthik and called out for being a spokesperson for failed KL Rahul.
Here’s how fans reacted:
A failure is backing another failure what a talent kartik is, this is how indian cricket is going on

Everybody is the captain of the team nowadays. So that shouldn’t be a criteria to back someone. Yes, he performed well in SOME overseas assignments but he has lacked consistency since the beginning of his career

We need to move on from this kl obsession. We were terrible in t20 WC bcoz of his terrible approach. His captainship yesterday was below avg. Batting his test avg is 35..thats terrible for top order batsman. Need 2 move on.

DK. Dude, he’s struggling in every format. Everywhere and in every situation. Have some shame. Personal relationship must not be bigger than team’s interest

Notably, the Indian team will lock horns against Sri Lanka in the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka starting from the 3rd of January next year. Following that, the men in blue will host New Zealand in a limited-overs assignment later in the month of January.
