‘We start complicating things with our own attachments..’- Virat Kohli hits back at critics after the 45th ODI century against SL

Former Indian skipper and veteran batter Virat Kohli continued to start his run of form with the bat from the same point where he left in 2022 in the third ODI at Chattogram against Bangladesh. The 34-year-old smashed an outstanding ton of 113 runs off 87 balls with 12 boundaries and a six in the first of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

The modern-day batting great also equalized Sachin Tendulkar’s record of highest ODI centuries (20) on home soil. Apart from that, he is now only five centuries away from breaking Master Blaster’s record of highest ODI centuries (49). Kohli has now 45 ODI centuries to his name in international cricket.

Notably, during his lean patch with the bat, the 2011 World Cup batter was on the receiving end of harsh criticism from a few renowned cricketers. The list of critiques included the likes of Virat’s former teammate and two-time world cup winner opener Gautam Gambhir alongside 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev.

Meanwhile, Kohli after completing his 45th ODI century came up with a brutal reply and took a subtle dig at the critiques who discredited his previous achievements during the poor run of form with the bat for a few years.

I think when that perspective goes off, then you start putting yourself – Virat Kohli

“I think it is when we start complicating things with our own attachments, our own desires, our own attachment to who we’ve become from people’s point of view, not who we were when we picked up the bat and started playing the sport. I think when that perspective goes off, then you start putting yourself in a space where everything just keeps spiraling downwards,” said Kohli during the post-match presentation.

Now, Kohli will be in action with the Indian team during the upcoming second of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Both teams will play this match at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. The hosts have already taken a lead of 1-0 in the three-match series against the Islanders.
