Asia Cup 2022: SL vs BAN Live Streaming: When And Where To Watch Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Match Live In Your Country? Match 05. The fifth match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 will take place between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Thursday, September 1.

Not just India and Pakistan, but Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have also built something of rivalry amongst themselves. With two defeats in two Asia Cups (2016 & 2018), Sri Lanka will now seek to redeem itself against mighty Bangladesh.

Bangladesh on the other hand ended up playing in two Asia Cup finals in the year 2016 and 2018. In the year 2016, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by a margin of 23 runs. Things got worst for Sri Lanka in the 2018 edition as Bangladesh inflicted a loss of 128 runs on them.

The winners of the 1996 World Cup finals and the finalists of the 2011 and 2015 World Cup, the Sri Lankan team has a rich cricketing history but as of now, it seems like they are caught in turmoil and seeking redemption. Under the leadership of Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lankan team seems to be going from strength to strength, and now they will look to defeat Bangladesh in the upcoming tournament which will be a huge boost for them.

Sri Lanka started their Asia Cup 2022 campaign with a defeat against Afghanistan. On the other hand, Bangladesh too will start its campaign against Afghanistan in the 3rd match of Asia cup 2022.

Sri Lanka had the worst possible start against Afghanistan as they could manage only 105 runs before getting all-out in 19.4 overs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa top-scored with 38.Afghanistan pacers Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq had broken the backbone of Sri Lanka batting.

While chasing, Afghanistan did an exceptional job and sealed the deal within 10.1 overs as well.  Rahmanullah Gurbaz (40 off 18) and Hazratullah Zazai (37* off 26) racked up 83 runs in the Powerplay itself effectively ending the game as a contest right there.

Asia Cup 2022: Afghanistan 106 for 2 (Gurbaz 40, Zazai 37*, Hasaranga 1-19) beat Sri Lanka 105 all out (Rajapaksa 38, Farooqi 3-11, Nabi 2-14) by 8 wickets

The Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh side will be aiming to improve their recent record in the shortest format, having won just two games out of 13 since the 2021 T20I World Cup last year. Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka is hoping that the Bangladesh bowling attack will not pose the same threat as his team had faced from the Afghans.

Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh at the Asia Cup does not instantly strike you as a fierce rivalry. After all, Sri Lanka holds a comfortable 11-3 lead in the head-to-head matches. Yet, there is rarely a lack of intensity when the two teams take the field.

Sri Lanka won the first 10 Asia Cup clashes between the sides. To sum up, it used to be a one-sided contest until the 2012 edition in Bangladesh. The scoreline still reads 3-11, but Bangladesh boasts a 3-1 lead over the past decade.

The five-time champion’s Asia Cup record in recent years has been underwhelming. Sri Lanka’s ODI performance hit an all-time low when it was trumped by Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the group stage of the 2018 Asia Cup, held in the UAE.

In the 2016 edition, where the tournament was played for the first time in the T20I format, Sri Lanka managed a solitary win over the UAE before being beaten by India, Pakistan, and hosts Bangladesh.

After finishing as the leading wicket-taker (16) in his maiden appearance at the 2021 T20I World Cup in UAE and Oman last year, spinner Wanindu Hasaranga will return as the bowling spearhead of the Sri Lankan attack in Asia Cup 2022.

Despite featuring in only five of Sri Lanka’s 11 T20Is this year, Wanindu Hasaranga has scalped 10 wickets to emerge as the joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Dushmantha Chameera, who was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 with an injury.
