New Zealand are on a trip to the Caribbean for the first time since 2014. They play a three-match T20I and ODI series starting with the first T20I on August 10 in Jamaica. All the T20Is will be played in Jamaica while the ODIs in Barbados.
New Zealand played against Ireland and Netherlands in their build-up to this important series against the West Indies. The senior players are back in the side with Kane Williamson leading a full-strength Kiwi side. Williamson along with Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Devon Conway have all been named in New Zealand’s 15-man squad for their tour of the West Indies.
“For Kane, Trent, Tim and Devon, this will be the first time they have played white ball cricket for New Zealand since last year’s T20 World Cup and tour to India – so this trip will be important for them” said Kiwi coach Gary Stead.
West Indies, on the other hand, are fresh off a home series loss against West Indies. They were whitewashed in the ODI series and lost the T20I series 1-4. The side has coped up with big losses in the series against India which has put their T20 World Cup preparations out of place. They are now looking to regather ahead of another important home series against the Kiwis.
” We were just not good enough. We didn’t learn from our mistakes. We just weren’t up to the challenge, just didn’t put enough partnerships. To come up against tough teams, we need to be good in execution. Be it in the batting group or bowling group, we have a lot of catching up to do. I just hope that we as a team learn from these losses. We’re building towards the World Cup and hopefully, we can do that right” said skipper Nicholas Pooran highlighting the India series.
